where ARCH appears below, replace with k7 for amd athlon/athlon64
processors or 686 for intel p3/p4 processors.
# apt-get update
# apt-get install nvidia-kernel-2.6.17-1-ARCH linux-image-2.6.17-1-ARCH
# reboot
# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
i believe that should correctly install the kernel and modules and
configure all relevant module loading goodness, but hey, what do i
know? i've only ever used stock kernels on production redhat machines
(gag).
also, please include the output of the following (run as root on the console):
# lsmod
# cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
# cat /var/log/dmesg
